Automatic Detection of Optical Signals And Warning
When OTDR tests optical links, the accuracy of test results will be deteriorated and even the optical detector will be damaged permanently if communication optical signals are present in the fiber. AV6416 time domain reflectometer can automatically detect the communication optical signals in the fiber. Once connected to the optical interface, AV6416 will begin to check if there is any communication optical signal in the fiber. If there is, AV6416 will generate a warning signal to ensure the most quick and timely protection to the instrument.
Manual Test Mode
Manual test mode is suitable for skilled operators, who know the optical time domain reflectometer very well, to get more accurate test results. In this testing mode, users can choose average or real time test pattern as required. The real time test can detect dynamic changes of optical links and is often used to monitor or observe connection process and connecting efficiency of optical links.
The average test mode is applied to test optical links in a stable state. It can suppress noises in the test curve to the greatest extent to get more accurate test results. The average number has an impact on noise suppression effect. The larger the average number, the better the effect of noise suppression but the longer the test time. Hence, the average number needs to be set in practical use.
Dead Zone Test Mode
Dead zone test mode is suitable for testing of ultra short optical fibers, such as testing the length of optical patch cords. In this mode, reflection loss (or return loss) of the end of the fiber measured should be larger than 40dB if users hope to get the best test results.
Fast Automatic Test
Besides manual test mode and dead zone test mode, automatic test mode is also available which is cost-efficient as well. Automatic test function leads to very simple test procedures. Without need to learn more about the operation details, users just have to connect the fiber and click the test button. Then the optical time domain reflectometer will automatically set optimum test conditions and generate accurate testing results including test curve and event list.
